Riverdale, NY - It was a battle between two of the top teams in the Skyline Conference, and it was the Dolphins who came out on top.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent played host to St. Joseph's University Long Island on Saturday afternoon in a conference matchup that featured two teams with a combined 7-1-2 record against Skyline foes. It was UMSV that got the better of the Golden Eagles, thanks in large part to an offensive surge that took place over the course of the first half.
The Dolphins are now 4-0-1 through five conference games.
Junior goalkeeper
Javiera Sanchez shined in the early portions of the game, as she would make a pair of doorstep saves as the Golden Eagles would make early pushes. At the midway point of the first half is when we would see the Dolphins offense begin to heat up.
Jasmine Hewitt,
Eva Puentes,
Julianna Agueci and
Alicia Rodriguez would each get their chances, but UMSV's first strike eventually came off the foot of captain
Victoria Gamarra.
The junior was at the end of tremendous passing from both
Arianna Morales and
Shalyn Pryor, who both played the ball beautifully to find a streaking Gamarra to give the Dolphins the advantage.
Sanchez continued to play a stout game in net, eventually recording six saves in the victory.
Dana DeDominicis,
Cameron Cruz,
Maddie Halford and
Gisselle Soria each did a tremendous job limiting the St. Joe's offense to just nine total shots.
The Dolphins will head out to Long Island to challenge Old Westbury as they look to continue their winning ways against the conference.
