Pegg's Last Minute Goal Propels Dolphins Past Springfield

Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins are back in the win column.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team got back into the win column on Wednesday evening. In a rare October non-conference matchup, UMSV took on a tough Springfield College team, with the two sides battling to a 1-1 draw with less than a minute to go. It was at that point when sophomore Trevor Pegg connected a header on a deep pass from junior Donovan Speer to push the Dolphins past the Pride in a 2-1 victory.

UMSV now sits at 7-2-3 through 12 games.

It was freshman Amos Bignotti who got his team on the board early. At just the six minute mark, the freshman striker converted a shot attempt, with junior Arav Kumar registering the assist. It was a defensive showcase for a majority of the first half, as the Dolphins limited Springfield to just five first half shots. Unfortunately for UMSV, the Pride would connect on a shot of their own with 47 seconds in the half to tie the game at one.

The defensive battle rolled into the second half. UMSV's back line remained strong, this time allowing just two shots to reach goalkeeper Andrew Tarkazikis, who came into the game in relief of sophomore Miguel Fierro, who made two first half saves.

The Dolphins kept challenging, with both Sebastian Ciurlizza and John Brienza both having chances to register goals. But it was the defender Pegg who saved the day for the Dolphins, as his first goal of the season was the difference maker.

UMSV will look to keep the momentum on their side in a weekend matchup against Skyline Conference rival Mount Saint Mary College.
