Newburgh, NY - The Dolphins are back in the Skyline Conference win column.
After a two game skid taking place over the last two weeks, the University of Mount Saint Vincent earned a hard-fought conference victory on Saturday when they traveled to Mount Saint Mary College and defeated the Knights by the score of 2-1.Â
It was a defensive battle for the majority of the contest, as both sides failed to put a point on the board until the 76th minute. Despite not scoring, the Dolphins offense kept the pressure up all game long, as the team would register 15 total shot attempts, including 10 in the second half.Â
William Sornin was the player who would strike first, as his fifth goal of the 2024 campaign was good enough to put UMSV up with 14 minutes left in regulation. Classmate
Amos Bignotti would follow up with a strike of his own, as his seventh goal of the year made it a two score game with less than eight minutes remaining.Â
The Knights would cut the Dolphins lead in half just three minutes later, but UMSV would hang on to the lead and walk away victorious. Sornin paced the Dolphins in both shots (five) and shots on goal (three) while Bignotti and defender
Trevor Pegg had three shots apiece. Freshman goalkeeper
Samuel Reine made one save in the win.Â
The Dolphins will remain on the road this week, this time traveling out to Patchogue to challenge current top-seed St. Joseph's University Long Island.Â
