New York - The Dolphins won a pair of games in less than 24 hours, one of which served as a rematch of the 2023 Skyline Conference Championship.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team had the rare task of two games in less than 24 hours, as they would challenge the United States Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point on Friday night before challenging SUNY-Delhi in front of family, friends and alumni during UMSV's Reunion and Homecoming Weekend. The Dolphins would walk away victorious in both, defeating USMMA 3-1 before taking down the Broncos by the score of 6-1.
UMSV is now 8-5-1 on the year with a conference mark of 6-1-1.
The Dolphins dominated the conference rematch against a Mariners team that not only the boasted the best record in the Skyline but also hadn't allowed a goal in conference play. UMSV would erase both feats in one night, as standouts
Alicia Rodriguez and
Arianna Morales would go on to score goals within the first 10 minutes of play. A second strike from Rodriguez would extend the lead to 3-0 in just the first half, a lead the Dolphins would hold onto to close things out.
The Dolphins will pick up right where they left off offensively at home on Saturday. Rodriguez's offensive surge continued when she scored her fifth goal of the season to open things up for UMSV. The Broncos would tie things up less than two minutes later, but it would be all Dolphins from there on out.
Victoria Gamarra and
Emily Toepfer would complete the first half with goals of their own while
Shalyn Pryor,
Aubrey Gulbin and
Taylor Gabat would get on the board over the final 45 minutes of action. Rodriguez,
Gabriela Del Castillo,
Lena Marin and
Shayla Hassler would all record assists in the action.
Things are looking up for the Dolphins, and they'll look to keep up their pace in the final two weeks of the season. Their next opponent will be St. Joseph's University Brooklyn, who make their way to Riverdale on Wednesday.
