Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins' resilience paid off in a major way on Saturday afternoon.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team competed in the first leg of a double header for UMSV's Reunion and Homecoming weekend in a pivotal Skyline Conference showdown with St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. The Bears eventually led by two goals in the second half, but UMSV's offense surged back in a major way, scoring three second half goals to walk away with the 4-3 victory.
The win put the Dolphins at 9-5-2 overall with a 4-4 record against the Skyline.
UMSV got off on the right foot, as standout freshman
Javier Trujillo continued his fantastic start to his collegiate career with a strike at the 16:36 mark, with fellow first-year striker WIlliam Sornin registering the assist. Less than two minutes later, the Bears would convert a shot attempt of their own, and the game would remain tied at one heading into halftime.
St. Joseph's had all the momentum in their favor coming out of the break. They would score a pair of goals within two minutes of each other to give themselves a 3-1 lead with just over 30 minutes remaining in regulation. The Dolphins, however, wouldn't let the score deter them. From the 60th to the 70th minute, UMSV would go on a three goal scoring streak of their own, as sophomore Sebastian Mesa would convert a penalty shot attempt while Trujillo and
Amos Bignotti would account for the remaining scores to emerge victorious.
The win brings the Dolphins one step closer to playoff contention. They'll look to continue their wedding ways heading into next week when they take on Sarah Lawrence College.
