Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team took on a tough United States Merchant Marine Academy at home on Saturday afternoon, with the Mariners ultimately getting the best of the Dolphins. USMMA was victorious in consecutive sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-19), but UMSV put together another strong performance against a tough Skyline Conference opponent.
The Dolphins are now 3-11 overall as they continue to look for their first conference victory.
Melanieann Broderick, who recently compiled 100 kills in a season for the fourth straight year, was a boon for the Dolphins offense. The fifth-year hitter tied for a team lead with eight kills, along with five digs and an ace. Fellow hitter
Reilly Nichtern was neck and neck with Broderick, taking home eight kills of her own while also pacing the Dolphins with 11 digs.
Lydia Aryee split time between hitter and setter and impressed, collecting 12 assists while adding three kills. Freshman
Paige Staley was second on the team with nine assists of her own while classmate
Sophia Madalakis led the way with a pair of blocks.
The Dolphins hit the road on Tuesday evening for a showdown with Maritime College.
