Old Westbury, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent has not only picked up where they left off in 2023, but they're arguably playing better. The Dolphins continued their hot streak this week, as the team walked away with two 25+ point victories against Skyline Conference competition, first at home against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday, followed up by a 85-47 rout over Old Westbury on the road. The victories make the Dolphins 6-1 in conference play, good for second place will the season reaching its midway point.
UMSV operated in a similar fashion from Thursday's win where they control the game of play from the opening tip until the final buzzer.
The Dolphins outscored Old Westbury in each of the four quarters played, including a stifling second quarter defense that saw the Panthers score just five points. The Panthers would shoot just 31% from the floor while also turning the ball over 33 teams. The Dolphins, meanwhile, looked incredibly sharp on their offensive end, as the team shot over 44% in three quarters played.
In what has been a theme all season, there were contributions from all over
Maria Nardulli's roster.
Magan Jackson continued to make an impact in her debut season with the Dolphins, as she transfer sophomore led the way with 22 points and added five boards, two assists and a pair of steals.
Amber Been continued to work back from a knee injury and is looking like the All-Conference selection she has been throughout her career, as she put together a 16 point, four steal, three rebound and two assist game off the bench.
Kira Villegas had yet another strong performance that saw her all over the stat sheet. Not only did the graduate student record 10 points and nine rebounds, but also had a season-best seven assists while also chipping in three steals.
Ariella Johnson also finished in double figures with 14 points on an efficient seven-of-11 shooting.
It's been a tremendous season so far for UMSV, and they'll look to keep it going next week at home against Purchase College.
