Dolphins Drop Second Straight Skyline Game Against Knights

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's string of games against the top of the Skyline continued into the weekend, this time taking on Mount Saint Mary College after tough matchups against St. Joseph's University Long Island and Manhattanville College. The Knights' three point attack was too much to overcome for the Dolphins, dropping the contest by the score of 64-50. The loss drops UMSV to 8-2 in the conference, with their strong start to the season keeping them in a strong position as the second half of the year commences.

Two first-year Dolphins were the driving forces behind UMSV's offensive attack. Ariella Johnson continued to provide a fantastic scoring punch off the bench for Maria Nardulli's squad, scoring 13 points on an efficient five-of-nine shooting while consistently getting to the free throw line. Fellow transfer Magan Jackson matched Johnson's team-high 13 points while also adding eight boards - two of which came off the offensive glass - in addition to a pair of assists.

After trailing by four in the first, the Dolphins stormed back to make it a game going into halftime. The team shot an impressive 50% from the floor, and a Kayla Hanley jumpshot propelled UMSV to take the lead with just 1:41 left in the second quarter. Kira Villegas would go on to knock down a three in the team's final possession of the half to bring the score to 30-28 in favor of the Dolphins.

The team's shooting woes unfortunately returned in the second half. Johnson cut the lead to six after converting an and-one attempt, but that was as close as they would get until the final buzzer.

In addition to Jackson's efforts on the boards, Anastasia Davis and JaKaia Lotz also impressed in the category, combining for 13. Villegs and Amber Been had three steals apiece while Julia Angeles chipped in six points, three boards and a block off the bench.

The 12-4 Dolphins will look to return to the win column in a road contest against Yeshiva University on Wednesday.
