Dolphins, Gryphons Finish In Tie In Skyline Opener

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team welcomed 2022 Skyline Conference champions Sarah Lawrence College to Riverdale on Wednesday, facing off in a battle of the top two seeds from a season ago. The teams went toe-to-toe, but scoring one apiece with the game ending in a tie.

The Gryphons were the first to strike, as their aggressive play in front of net led to an own goal from the Dolphins. It gave the visitors an early one goal edge, winning the possession battle early on as well.

At the 29 minute mark, it was CMSV's time to strike. Freshman Caitlyn Thompson continued the impressive start to her collegiate career, as the Staten Island, New York native scored her third goal of the season to tie the game at one. Reigning First Team All-Skyline recipient Alicia Rodriguez picked up the assist.

From that point on, it was the Dolphins who were on the offensive attack. As a whole, CMSV outshot Sarah Lawrence 18-12 while having multiple attempts to take the lead. That theme continued into the second half, as Thompson, Rodriguez, sophomore Victoria Gamarra and freshman Brittany Boyle all had chances to convert shot attempts but narrowly missed.

The Dolphins defense continued their impressive 2023 campaign. The unit, consisting of Arianna Morales, Cameron Cruz, Gisselle Soria and Maddie Halford, did a tremendous job stifling the Gryphons attack. Sophomore goalkeeper Brooke Frierson made six saves, bringing her season total to 29.

CMSV is set to take on Purchase College in another Skyline Conference matchup this coming Saturday on Marillac Field.
