Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team was on their home turf for the fourth straight game, taking on one of their toughest opponents on the late in the form of Wesleyan College. The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead but the Cardinals fought back and walked away with a 3-1 victory. This contest was the final tuneup before conference play, with CMSV welcoming reigning Skyline Conference Champions Sarah Lawrence College to campus on Wednesday night.
CMSV was up for the challenge in the early goings. They controlled the possession game and continued taking shots, resulting in the first goal of the contest. Freshman
Caitlyn Thompson took things into her own hands, dribbling from outside the box while converting an impressive striking attempt to give her team the one goal lead. THe pressure continued, with freshman
Brittany Boyle narrowly missing a goal to extend her team's lead.
From there, however, it was all Wesleyan. The Cardinals scored consecutive goals on corner attempts before the game went into halftime. Coming out of the break, the Cardinals continued to win the time of possession battle, all the while scoring an additional goal to put the game out of reach for good.
Thompson's goal was her second on the year, giving her seven total points through five games. Junior
Brooke Frierson made four saves in the contest.
With the Gryphons coming to Riverdale this week, it'll serve as a test for a Dolphins team with championship aspirations.
