Riverdale, NY - For the second time in as many games, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's defense shined in a major way. After a shutout 3-0 victory against Kean one week ago, the Dolphins blanked Ramapo College by the score of 1-0, giving the team their second win of the 2023 season.
CMSV now sits at .500 through four games.
The score stayed at 0-0 throughout the first half, but it wasn't for a lack of trying on the Dolphins' end. CMSV outpaced Ramapo in a number of team categories, including shots (12-3). While the Dolphins failed to reach the back of the net, the consistent pressure was a sign of things to come in the second half of action.
Head coach
Stuart Dick finally saw his team put points on the board just six minutes into the second half. Freshman
Caitlyn Thompson took a corner kick and placed the ball beautifully into the center of the action, which saw classmate
Maddie Halford take the pass off her head, striking it right past Ramapo's goalkeeper for the eventual game winner.
The defense remained stout, with
Arianna Morales,
Dana DeDominicis,
Gisselle Soria and
Cameron Cruz, among others, all chipping in to stifle the Roadrunners. Ramapo did see some action late in the game in CMSV's zone, but sophomore
Javiera Sanchez closed the book with a pair of late saves to close things out, recording a shut out in the process.
For the Dolphins, the win gives the team much needed momentum heading into this weekend's game against Wesleyan University.
