Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offense, Defense Both Shine In Dolphins Rout Over Pratt

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team shined on both ends of the field on their way to their first win of the 2023 season. A four goal team performance, coupled with a shutout by goaltender Joel Luna, gave head coach Johnny Raj his first collegiate win as the leader of the program.

The Dolphins are now 1-2 on the year and will look to reach .500 this coming Thursday right back here in Riverdale.

CMSV's attack was on full display, starting in the early going. Freshman Nicholas Carvalho got things started for his team, as he went on to score his first collegiate goal less than six minutes into the action. While that would've been enough to secure the victory, the Dolphins' offense continued to strike.

Next up was senior captain Ian Lamas, who scored his first goal of 2023 off a tremendous crossing pass from junior transfer Jason Otiniano. Less than five minutes later, it was Oscar Billman who put one past the Cannoneers goalkeeper to continue his strong start to his CMSV career.

The offense certainly found success, but so did the back line. The combination of Justin Betancourt, Donovan Speer and Cesar Mendez thwarted Pratt's attack, limiting the opposition to just two shots, none of which reached Luna.

The second half was more of the same. Lamas converted his second shot attempt for a goal while sophomore Maxwell Buonaga collected the first goal of his career with 25 minutes left in regulation. The defense continue to hold strong, with three shots being registered. Andrew Tarkazikas, who came in relief for Luna, saved the one shot that reached him.

The Dolphins will look to keep the momentum in their favor this Thursday when they take on Hunter College.
