Riverdale, NY - The turn of the calendar to September marked the official start of the 2023 season, as men's soccer kicked off their latest campaign with a rare Skyline Conference showdown against Yeshiva University. The Maccabees, who have developed a rivarly with the Dolphins over the last couple of seasons, emerged victorious on the pitch, defeating CMSV by the score of 4-1.
After a physical back and forth affair early on, Yeshiva struck twice within a five minute span. One goal was an impressive one on one, with the other coming from a crossing pass off the chest of the Maccabees striker.
Standout first-year Dolphin
Oscar Billman did his best to swing the momentum. Just three minutes after Yeshiva's second goal, the Stockholm, Sweden native carred the ball from the top of the box and used his body to get past his defender, burying his first shot attempt of the season in the process.
The one-goal difference carried into the second half, with Yeshiva scoring just four minutes into the half, as well as with six minutes left in regulation.
Johnny Raj's squared featured a revamped look, with 10 of the 16 players suiting up in their first game for CMSV. Freshman
Miguel Fierro received the nod in net, allowing two goals in the process before veteran goaltender
Joel Luna took over in the second half.
The Dolphins will look to use this game as fuel heading into Wednesday's matchup in Riverdale against John Jay College.
