Farmingdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team saw the 2023 season come to an end on Tuesday evening against St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. It was the definition of a pitchers duel in the opening round of the Skyline Conference postseason, with the game going nine innings before a defensive mishap plated the game winning run for the Bears.
While there aren't any games left on the schedule, the Dolphins completed their year as an emerging team with strong leadership at the top and a roster primed to compete for years to come.
Freshman
Savannah Autobee got the call in the first round matchup and rewarded head coach
Kevin Carbon's decision. The Pueblo, Coloardo native went the distance for the Dolphins and allowed just five hits in 8.1 innings of work. The first-year hurler completed her inaugural collegiate season with a 4.04 ERA in 17 appearances.
The offense saw production, but not enough to get a run across. Seven of the team's nine starters recorded hits, with senior standout
Jocelyn Vega leading the way with two. The Dolphins had their chances in multiple innings but left eight runners stranded throughout the contest.
It's a disappointing end to a promising season, but it just marks the beginning. With all but four players returning in 2024 with a robust incoming freshmen class, the CMSV softball program is on the rise within the Skyline and beyond.
