Women's Lacrosse Comes From Behind, Loses In OT Against Golden Eagles

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team hosted the St. Joseph's Long Island Golden Eagles on Tuesday in the team's fourth Skyline Conference matchup of the season. The Dolphins made a furious comeback, eventually taking the game to overtime, but the Golden Eagles converted first as the Dolphins fell by a score of 16-15.

The Dolphins started off hot, scoring five goals in the first period to take a 5-2 lead. The Golden Eagles would strike back, out-scoring the Dolphins 6-2 in the second period, leaving the Dolphins trailing by a score of 8-7 at the halfway point.

The second half was close the entire way, but the Dolphins trailed by three goals with less than a minute left in the game. Sophomore midfielder Alicia Rodriguez came through in a big way for the Dolphins, scoring three goals in 43 seconds to send the game into overtime, where the Dolphins ultimately lost.

A big part of the Dolphins offensive outburst today was sophomore standout Rodriguez, as she tallied nine goals and two assists for a total of 11 points, and also added six ground balls and 10 draw controls to her stat line. Both her points and draw control totals put her over 100 in each category in her young career. Two other big pieces to the Dolphins offense today were Ashley Teal and Ava Starace, as they each tallied three goals. Dolphins junior goalkeeper Katherine Hungerford also had a solid performance, making 12 saves in a game where she faced 28 shots.

The Dolphins are back in action this Saturday at 3 PM hosting Maritime College on Marillac Field for another Skyline Conference matchup as the Dolphins look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win over the Privateers.
