Mahwah, NJ - The College of Mount Saint Vincent baseball team traveled to Mahwah, New Jersey to face the Ramapo College Roadrunners in a midweek contest ahead of their conference doubleheader this weekend against Mount Saint Mary's College. The Dolphins were in the game the entire time and attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, but fell short to the Roadrunners by a score of 6-5.
Freshman pitcher/outfielder Will Granata got the start for the Dolphins today, looking to get them back in the win column. Granata did his part, pitching 3.1 innings, giving up three runs while striking out four along the way.
The Dolphins took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, courtesy of a wild pitch that scored freshman Joshua McCormick and a walk by Danny DiNorcia that drove in Joey DiNorcia. The Dolphins quickly fell behind in the bottom of the inning, surrendering three runs and falling into a 3-2 hole. The Dolphins tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning on a home run by graduate student Eric Zimmermann to knot the game at three.
The game would stay tied at that score until the Dolphins came to bat in the seventh inning. CMSV scored two runs in the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. thanks to Johnny Brucato scoring on an error by the Roadrunners, with DiNorcia crossing home plate on a sacrifice fly from fellow freshman Drew Knight. In the bottom of the inning, the Dolphins would surrender three runs to the Roadrunners to trail 6-5 and the Dolphins would lose by that score.
The Dolphins now have their eyes set on a huge doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary's College this Saturday, where they look to improve their conference record to 5-0 a quarter of the way through conference play this season.
