Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team furthered their success on the newly renovated Marillac Field on Monday evening. The Dolphins challenged Centenary University in another non-conference matchup, cruising to a 20-goal victory. The win not only put CMSV over the .500 mark, but also improved their home record to an impressive 4-1 to start the 2023 campaign.
It was an all out barrage offensively for
James Fitzgerald's team, who continue to put up gaudy scoring totals at home. The Dolphins scored nine of the games first 10 goals, all in the first period, as the offense dominated the time of possession. The first-year starting attack unit of
Andrew Dzubak,
Richie Albert and
Isaac Parsons continued to get it done for CMSV, as they combined for each of the nine points. Duzbak led the charge with five in the first 15 minutes of action, while Albert (three) and Parsons (one) padded the team's lead.
The Dolphins defense let up just one goal in the second quarter, good for two in the first half.
Sawyer Davis made three saves on five shots faced, while the defense, led by
Adrian Guillermo,
Jake Luxoro and
Walker Moore, allowed just 11 first half shots.
The impressive CMSV performance continued into the third quarter until the end of regulation. The Dolphins would outscore Centenary 6-1 in the second half, with Moore,
Jeffrey Santana and
Chukwuyem Ntadi all picking up their first goals of the year. Midfielders Renee Alamo (seven ground balls, three caused turnovers, one assist, 50% face off percentage) and
Brian Valera (five ground balls, 14 faceoff wins in 20 chances) continue to be a boon in the team's transition game, one that went 13-for-14 on clears. Freshmen
Steven Gomez,
Miguel Cordero,
Nick Botallico all aided in the team's victory in the final quarter.
For the Dolphins, Dzubak finished with seven goals and two helpers, good for a tie with Albert (four goals, two assists) in points with 31, currently fourth-best in the Skyline. Parsons finished with four and three of his own while
Ryan Jean-Pharuns added two goals and an assist to go along with a pair of ground balls. Freshmen Mark Lulgjeraj and
Roger Raimo split the second half in net and combined for six saves.
The biggest test yet for CMSV comes on Wednesday in the form of Moravian University. The rescheduled matchup takes place in Riverdale at 3:00 PM.
