Second Half Struggles Doom Dolphins Against Moravian

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team finally took on Moravian University down on Marillac, after they opening day showdown was postponed due to weather. The Dolphins went toe-to-toe with the Greyhounds over the first half of action, but the visitors pulled away in the final 30 minutes of play, resulting in a 23-9 loss. CMSV wraps up conference play with an even .500 record.

The Dolphins had a tough time keeping pace with Moravian's offense in the first quarter, as the Greyhounds opened the action with six consecutive goals. CMSV, however, closed out the first in impressive fashion. With less than two minutes to go, both Jacob Cochran and Andrew Dzubak were able to add to the team's scoring column, cutting Moravian's lead to four. The Dolphins carried their momentum into the second period, when Cochran and Ryan Jean Pharuns' goals were able to make it an 8-5 game, with CMSV clearly feeding off the energy on both ends of the floor. Sawyer Davis did his best to keep the team in the game in the first half with a dominant 21 total saves.

Unfortunately, the young defense had trouble in the second half. Moravian would go on to score 13 unanswered goals, including outscoring the Dolphins 12-4 in the second half, resulting in the loss.

Cochran and Dzubak each registered a hat trick, with Dzubak also adding an assist to his stat line. Defenseman Adrian Guillermo impressed, leading the way in ground balls (five) and caused turnovers (three) while Walker Moore added three ground balls of his own.

The Dolphins open conference play next Wednesday when St. Joseph's University Long Island come to Riverdale.
