Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team responded in a major way to their loss to New Paltz over the weekend when they took on Mitchell College at home on Wednesday. The Dolphins as a whole were an absolute force in all facets of the game, dominating the Mariners in a 19-3 route on Marillac Field. CMSV improved their record to 3-2 in the early goings of the 2023 campaign.
The Dolphins scored 17 unanswered goals in the first half of play, putting things out of reach before halftime. Throughout the course of the game, CMSV won all major statistical battles, including shots (63-19), ground balls (54-14) and faceoffs (18-8), as well as going 13-for-14 on clears and a perfect 3-for-3 in man advantage opportunities.
The freshmen attack unit of
Richie Albert,
Andrew Dzubak and
Isaac Parsons continued to be the driving force behind the team's offense, as the trio scored 10 of the 17 goals in the first 30 minutes of play. The scoring went beyond that unit, however, as Renee Alamo - known more so for his defensive prowess - as well as midfielders
Ryan Jean-Pharuns,
Joseph Santana and
Albert Dore each helped pad their team's lead.
Senior
Emmanuel Dore and freshman
Nick Botallico capped off the victory with goals in the fourth quarter, both coming in as their first scores this season. Albert (four), Dzubak (three), Alamo (two), Parsons (two), Jean-Pharuns (one) and Santana (one) all entered the assist column, with midfielder
Jacob Cochran adding a pair of his own.
The defensive trio of
Adrian Guillermo,
Chris Meenan and
Walker Moore each registered three caused turnovers apiece in the process of shutting down the Mariners' offense. Freshmen
Steven Gomez and
Jhael Flores also recorded the first caused turnovers of their young careers. Cochran paced the Dolphins with six ground balls while Meenan and
Brian Valera scooping five each, with Valera also going 13-for-17 on faceoffs.
Senior goaltender
Sawyer Davis recorded a first half shutout, with freshmen
Mark Lulgjuraj and
Roger Raimo combining to make four saves in the second half.
James Fitzgerald's squad will look to keep the success in their favor going into the weekend. They'll hit the road to Pennsylvania to challenge Immaculata University.
