Ft. Pierce, FL - The Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team closed out their spring break trip today against the Marywood University Pacers, looking to end their trip with a victory. They did just that with an easy 14-3 victory over the Pacers.
The Dolphins pulled out the victory today behind a strong offensive presence and a stellar pitching performance from junior pitcher/outfielder
Sean Kennedy. Kennedy went seven innings allowing no runs, while tallying 10 strikeouts and one walk. The Dolphins went down 2-0 early in the first inning, but would answer with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 2-1 thanks to freshman
Drew Knight's first collegiate home run. The Dolphins never looked back after the first inning, scoring three more in the bottom half of the second to take the lead 4-2, this time courtesy of an RBI single from freshman
Will Granata and a two RBI single from fellow freshman
Johnny Brucato.
The Dolphins would tack on two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to extend their lead to 6-2 before exploding in the bottom half of the seventh inning for five runs. Granata added to his impressive day at the plate with a two RBI double, followed by another RBI single from Brucato and to finish off the inning Knight would also add to his stellar offensive performance today by notching a two RBI single to extend the Dolphins' lead to 11-2.
In the bottom of the eighth inning the Dolphins would tally on 3 more runs to extend their lead to 14-2 at the time. Brucato added another two RBI to his resume and
Liam Hempstead tallied his first collegiate RBI to wrap up the scoring for the Dolphins. Junior pitcher
Ivan Navarro tallied another scoreless inning for the Dolphins today, striking out one in the process.
Gio Zuena would close out the game for the Dolphins, winning the game 14-3 and ending their losing skid at three, hoping to start another winning streak this upcoming week.
The Dolphins are back in action Wednesday, March 22 at 3 PM in Hoboken, New Jersey facing off against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks. The Dolphins are looking to start a new winning streak heading into conference play next weekend.
