Dolphins Drop Contest Against Stevens Ahead Of Skyline Opener

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team went out to Hoboken, New Jersey to face the Stevens Tech Ducks for their final game prior to conference play on Wednesday afternoon. The Dolphins looked to enter conference play on a high note with a victory. After a late game comeback attempt, the Dolphins would fall to the Ducks by a score of 6-4.

Sophomore Angelo Bartziokas was given the nod by head coach John Muller. Bartziokas went three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) while tallying two strikeouts in the process. The Dolphins went down 2-0 early, but quickly answered with a run of their own in the third inning to cut the deficit to one, courtesy of an RBI groundout off the bat of freshman infielder/catcher Drew Knight.

In the following innings, the Dolphins sent seniors Andrew Geiger and Aidan Rice out to the mound and they both dominated. Geiger went one inning, racking up two strikeouts, with Rice following that up with a two inning, three strikeout performance of his own. The Dolphins would later fall into a 6-1 hole and attempt to climb out of it in the eighth inning.

The Dolphins scored three runs in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. Junior outfielder/pitcher Sean Kennedy started off the scoring for the Dolphins in the eighth inning with an RBI single. Kennedy also finished off the game for the Dolphins, pitching the final inning and a third, shutting out the Ducks offense and only allowing one hit along with two strikeouts. Sophomore catcher Jason Albert would continue the scoring for the Dolphins later on in the eighth inning with an RBI single to cut the deficit to three at the time. Finishing off the Dolphins scoring efforts in the eighth was freshman outfielder Josh McCormick, who hit a single that would eventually score Kennedy thanks to a throwing error by the shortstop. The Dolphins comeback efforts were halted short as they failed to plate any more runs on the day, eventually losing the game by a score of 6-4.

The Dolphins look to put this loss behind them quickly with conference play starting this Friday. The Dolphins have their eyes set on Yeshiva University, who they play at Roberto Clemente State Park. CMSV is looking to continue their recent dominance over the Maccabees and are hoping to take two wins from them to open up their Skyline Conference play this season.
