Fort Pierce, FL -
The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team continued their spring trip to Fort Pierce, Florida today with a double header against The Kenyon College Owls looking to get back to their winning ways. In the first game the Dolphins fell short of a victory, by a score of 8-4. In the second game the Dolphins also came up short by a score of 5-0 in favor of the Owls.
In game one the Dolphins started off hot yet again, this time courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of senior infielder Jake Pierre to get the scoring started early. Later in the first inning, graduate student Eric Zimmerman would join the Dolphins scoring ways with a sacrifice fly of his own to give the Dolphins an early 2-0 lead. The Owls would then score four unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 4-2 lead over the Dolphins.
In the fifth inning, however, the Dolphins would knot the game at four thanks to a two RBI single off the bat of a scorching hot Engers Marte. In the next two innings the Dolphins would allow four runs in total to go down 8-4 and eventually would lose the game by that score.
In the second game, the Dolphins would hope to split the day and walk away with one win under their belt. In game two the Dolphins sent senior right hander Aidan Rice to the bump to attempt to halt their two game skid. Rice fired six solid innings, allowing five runs (four earned) while walking none and striking out four as well, giving the Dolphins in the game the entire time and giving them a good chance to win. Unfortunately the offense went cold for the Dolphins, only tallying two hits and a total of five baserunners, making it hard for them to get anything going offensively. Senior pitcher Justin Dutzer made his season debut today and did not disappoint, throwing a scoreless seventh inning for the Dolphins while striking out two in the process. The Dolphins would eventually fall 5-0 to the Owls, moving their season record to 6-5 a little over a quarter of the way through the season.
The Dolphins are back in action Friday in the last game of their spring trip against The Marywood University Pacers in hopes of ending their three game skid and leaving Florida in the win column.
