Myrtle Beach, SC - The College of Mount Saint Vincent opened the third day of their Myrtle Beach Spring Break trip with a packed day, with the team scheduled for three games against Cairn University, UMass Boston and Salem State. The Dolphins dropped the first two contests of the day before emerging victorious in game three, bringing their overall record to an even 4-4 on the year.
Despite an 11-4 loss to the Highlanders to start the day, there were bright spots across the Dolphins roster. The sophomore duo of
Kelly Murphy and
Sierra Romero impressed in the batters box, with each registering a team-best two hits. Murphy scored two of the four runs for CMSV while Romero had an RBI and run scored of her own. Freshman
Simone Caruso, too, had two hits with an RBI and classmate
Mila Gutierrez drove in two runs as well. Kate Hutter and
Savannah Autobee, who came in after starter
Charlotte Kelly, combined for five strikeouts against Cairn.
The offense was spread around against UMass Boston. Senior leader
Jocelyn Vega had a perfect day, going 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, a walk and a run scored, while Caruso and
Madyson Epps had two hits apiece. Hutter drove in a pair of runners with her lone hit of the day as well.
In the final game of the day, the Dolphins took home the victory thanks in large part to the pitching performance from
Serena Duran. The freshman from Yucaipa, California went the distance for head coach
Kevin Carbon, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out three in seven innings. Vega and Caruso continued their strong days when they plated runs. Vega had a clutch sacrifice fly for the first run of the game in the third inning, and Caruso followed that up in the same inning with an RBI triple.
The Dolphins close out their Spring Break trip on Wednesday when they take on SUNY Canton and Keystone College.
