Dolphins Downed At Home Against Utica University

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team, led by Head Coach Meaghan Smith, took on the Utica University Pioneers on the newly renovated Marillac Field today looking to pick up their first win of the season. Unfortunately the Dolphins fell short, but they played hard all game and had some bright spots on the offensive side of the ball.

The Dolphins started off slow, allowing seven goals in the first period and not scoring one of their own, but in the second period the Dolphins really turned it around. The Dolphins scored three goals in the second period, all courtesy of sophomore midfielder Alicia Rodriguez. Rodriguez had five total goals on the day while also adding two assists and 14 ground balls to round out her stat line on the day. The Dolphins ended the first half down 12-3 and were looking to mount a comeback in the second half.

The defense for the Dolphins in the second was stellar, only allowing five total goals for the entirety of the second half, three in the third period and two in the fourth period. The Dolphins offense also improved in the second half, as they scored five goals of their own in the second half to keep pace with the Pioneers. Senior attacker Ava Starace had three goals in the second half to help the Dolphins attempt at mounting a comeback. Rodriguez's two additional goals came in the second half as well. Senior midfielder Ashley Teal had an assist, seven ground balls and three draw controls to help aid the Dolphins in their comeback attempt as well. The Dolphins however, fell short, as they lost the game by a score of 17-8.

The Dolphins will face off against Bard College, at Bard College on Monday, March 13 as they look to tally their first win of this young season.
