Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dolphins Second Half Comeback Falls Short Against Rams

Riverdale, NY - On Wednesday, the College of Mount Saint Vincent men's basketball team, led by James Mooney, took on the Rams from Farmingdale State College in a game with big playoff implications. The Dolphins played hard all game but ultimately fell short to the Rams by a score of 78-55, moving them to 7-6 in Skyline Conference games and 11-11 overall for the 2022-2023 campaign.

The Dolphins fell into an 8-0 hole early on in the first half, while defensively and offensively not being able to find a groove. However, towards the middle of the first half, Joshua Cabezudo and Dillon Hod appeared as bright spots for the offense, both dropping eight points respectively. The Dolphins fell down by 23 at one point courtesy of Nick Hurowitz, who was a thorn in the Dolphins' side all night, notching 10 of his 15 points in the first half.

The Dolphins clawed back late with help from their 6-0 run as time expired in the half, with stellar defense towards the end of the half aiding in the team's comeback as well. This helped cut the lead to 16, ending the half down 40-24.

In the second half, Coach Mooney's squad came out strong, playing great defense and cutting the lead to 10 at one point. Haven Smith came out hot in the second half, scoring five of his nine points in the latter portion of the game. Cabezudo and Hod continued their scoring ways in the second half as well, with Cabezudo finishing with 14 overall points and Hod finishing with 13 points of his own.

Dan Porcic also had an impressive second half, crashing the boards very well, finishing with nine rebounds with seven points to boot. DJ Tucker had a strong second half as well, scoring all eight of his points in the second half of the game and adding eight rebounds to his stat line.

Despite their valiant efforts, the Dolphins ultimately fell short and will look to bounce back Saturday, February 11 at 8 PM against Yeshiva University on the road for another Skyline Conference clash with massive playoff implications.
