Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team hosted the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, taking on The College at Old Westbury in a final tuneup before the Skyline Conference playoffs. The Dolphins ended their year on a high note, defeating the Panthers 78-66 and finishing the season with a conference record of 8-8.
The Dolphins were rusty out of the gate, trading baskets with the Panthers in the early goings of the contest. Despite shooting just 28% from the floor - including going one for 11 from three - CMSV was able to enter halftime with a 33-22 advantage.
Dillon Hod impressed throughout the first half, where he scored 11 of his 15 points.
The Dolphins put it all together in the second half, thanks in large part to the bench giving the team a significant boost, specifically freshman
Joseph Carrier and junior
Sean Goodwin. The duo sparked the team, which included Carrier collecting 12 points, nine rebounds (seven offensive), three assists and a pair of steals while Goodwin totaled six points, five boards, two assists, a block and a steal. Their infectious hustle helped push the Dolphins to a 45% shooting percentage in the final 20 minutes of play.
Senior
Dan Porcic led the way in terms of points in the win with 16. Hod ended his afternoon with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals of his own. Both
DJ Tucker and
Joshua Cabezudo capped off their impressive first year in Riverdale with nine points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks and 12 points and 10 boards, respectively.
The Dolphins await their first round matchup, and will be hitting the road for the first game in the playoffs on Tuesday.
