Dolphins Take Home Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament Championship In Weekend Sweep

Brooklyn, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was active during Thanksgiving break, as the Dolphins were in Brooklyn over the weekend to take part in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament hosted by Medgar Evers College. CMSV and the Cougars were joined by Bard College and the Pratt Institute for a four game slate that saw the Dolphins dominate the competition, en route to a tournament championship. The opening contest saw Maria Nardulli's squad empty the bench in a 39-point victory over the Llama's before downing the hosts by the score of 75-36 in the tournament finale.

The wins improved CMSV's overall record to 4-1 on the season ahead of a Skyline showdown against Farmingdale State College.

Two Dolphins stood out across the weekend games. Sophomore transfer Magan Jackson continued the terrific start to her career in Riverdale when she went on to earn Tournament MVP honors. The Bronx, New York native - who made her way to CMSV from Monroe College - averaged 20 points, three rebounds and two assists against Bard and Medgar Evers while shooting an impressive 63% from the floor. Senior guard Kayla Hanley was named All-Tournament after posting five points, six assists and five boards in game one and eight points, five assists and five rebounds in the championship. She also combined to swipe six steals in the tournament.

As a whole, the Dolphins shot just over 41% from the floor while causing 62 turnovers, a tell-tale sign of a stingy defense while moving the ball around offensively.

The Rams are set to make their way to the city this coming Wednesday. The pivotal early-season conference matchup will be a test to see where CMSV stands against the Skyline.
