Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Dominate Rams, Win Third Straight Game By 20+ Points

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team continued their impressive start to the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night. The Dolphins played host to Farmingdale State College for the team's second Skyline Conference matchup of the season and cruised to a 20-point victory that saw the team improve their overall record to 5-1 thus far. Head coach Maria Nardulli saw four different players score in double figures in the victory.

The Dolphins and Rams went toe-to-toe in the early goings, with Farmingdale even leading by one point after the first quarter. CMSV turned up their efforts on both ends of the floor in the second, as the team as a whole shot 46% from the floor while forcing the Rams to turn the ball over seven times in that same span. Transfers Magan Jackson and Ariella Johnson were the driving force behind the second quarter surge, scoring eight combined points to open the period.

The second half displayed how exactly the Dolphins have dominated in the early weeks of the season. CMSV paced Farmingdale in nearly all statistical categories, including points (19-15), shooting percentage (60%-40%), rebounds (11-6) and bench points, among other categories. Graduate student Kira Villegas scored 11 of her 18 points over the final 20 minutes of action while transfer JaKaia Lotz put in all of her 11 points in the final two quarters as well.

Villegas (18), Johnson (13), Lotz (11) and Jackson (10) were the four standouts who finished in double figures. Villegas and Jackson also led the way with seven rebounds apiece. Starting guard Kayla Hanley filled the stat sheet herself, chipping in four points, five boards, three assists and a steal in the win, while Anastasia Davis was equally as productive (four points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal).

Skyline Conference play rolls on for the Dolphins next week. They'll hit the road to Newburgh to take on Mount Saint Mary College as the team looks to remain undefeated in conference play.
