Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dolphins Score Four Unanswered Goals, Earn Program's First Skyline Championship Game Appearance

Farmingdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team found themselves in familiar territory on Wednesday evening. Just a year ago, the Dolphins matched up with Farmingdale State College in the Skyline Conference semifinal, a game that saw the Rams advance to the championship game. This year, however, was a different story. The Dolphins dominated the competition on the road, as they scored four unanswered goals, earning them a spot in the final game of the tournament for the first time in program history.

The theme of the game was CMSV winnng the possession battle. The Dolphins defense held steady in their own zone, continuously getting the ball to the midfield and beyond to generate chances. That was evident in the stat sheet as well, as the Dolphins took 17 shots, including 10 in the second half. The pressure paid off in the early goings, as freshman Brittany Boyle got her team on the board at the 24 minute mark when she battled through physical defenders to get on the board.

The scoring in the first half didn't stop there. Conference Rookie of the Year frontrunner Caitlyn Thompson found herself on the receiving end of a penalty shot after being pushed in the zone. The Staten Island, New York native did what she's done all season and produced, with the conversion putting her team up by two going into the break.

The Dolphins played their best brand of soccer throughout the second half, as they stifled each and every Rams chance in the early goings. They also continued their success on offense when star midfielder Alicia Rodriguez fought through traffic to increase CMSV's lead. Thompson put the finishing touches on the victory when she carried the ball from the corner to the side of the net and scored a shot that was taken in a tight window.

The defense, led by Lily Ostiguy, Kari Horos, Maddie Halford and Gisselle Soria played tremendously in front of goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez, who also contineud her fantastic 2023 campaign with her eighth shutout in nine starts this year.

The Dolphins, who have outscored opponents 10-0 through two playoff rounds, await the winner of Sarah Lawrence-USMMA to see who they face off against on Saturday.
