Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team picked up their first conference win of the year on Thursday and were looking to keep the momentum in their favor on the road in a matchup against St. Joseph's University Long Island. Unfortunately for the Dolohins, their next victory will come at another time, as the team lost to the Golden Eagles in consecutive sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-23).
The Dolphins, who have received contributions from all over their roster this season, saw
Elizabeth Flores emerge as the team's top hitter. The senior from San Diego, California registered a team-high nine kills while also adding 11 digs and two service aces. Freshman Riley Nichtern had a breakout performance out on Long Island, with her five kills coming in as a season-high. Freshman
Jocelyn Castro continued her strong season at the front of the net with a game-best three blocks while senior libero
Isabella Garcia collected 15 digs. First year setter
Nicole Sullivan returned to the lineup on Monday and assisted on 14 kills, bringing her season total to 169.
The Dolphins saw the most success against a talented St. Joe's team in the final set. While the outcome wasn't what they expected, CMSV went up by as much as seven points before the Golden Eagles were able to emere winners.
Next up for the Dolphins is Manhattanville College. The Skyline Conference foe will make their way to Riverdale on Wednesday to battle the Dolphins in another conference tilt.
