Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team welcomed Manhattanville College to campus on Wednesday night. Despite a strong effort from the Dolphins, the Valiants proved to be too much to overcome, with the visitors walking away with a three set victory by the scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-15.
The loss put the Dolphins at 4-7 overall with a 1-3 mark against the Skyline.
The loss notwithstanding, one big positive to take away is the rapid improvement of the freshmen class of athletes, something that will put the team in a positive position both now and in the future.
Adelina Elezaj and Riley Nichtern combined for five kills, with each first year player stepping up at various points of the matchup. Middle
Jocelyn Castro continued to prove to be a force at the front of the net with two solo blocks and three block assists while
Nicole Sullivan set her teammates up on five different occasions. Both Nicole Rapp and Carly Synder also came in as subsititutes and provided valuable depth to the team while
Naomi Reynoso made her first career start and collected seven digs.
The veterans, meanwhile, continued to set the tone for the young squad.
Elizabeth Flores paced her team for the second straight contest with four kills while
Melanieann Broderick had three of her own while
Lydia Aryee and
Brianna Ayuso aided in the team's efforts off the bench.
The Dolphins will look to return to the win column on Saturday when they compete in a tri-match in Connecticut against Western Connecticut and Plymouth State.
