Dolphins Top CCNY By Two In Non-Conference Tilt

Riverdale, NY - After a tough result against Mount Saint Mary College over the weekend, the Dolphins took a break from Skyline play and hosted the City College of New York on Monday evening. The Dolphins were able to right the ship and get back in the win column, with goals from junior Alicia Rodriguez and freshman Lily Ostiguy serving as catalysts behind the 2-0 victory. The win brought CMSV's overall record to 5-3-2.

It wasn't long before the Dolphins got on the board. CMSV stayed on the offensive, continuously rushing the Beavers' back line. This led to a corner kick, which junior Gabriela Del Castillo placed in the perfect spot for Rodriguez, who headed one in for the first mark of the game. The goal was Rodriguez's third in 2023, while Del Castillo secured her first point of the year.

Despite only scoring one, CMSV's attack was relentless, with seven total shots coming in the first half. In what has become a theme for the Dolphins, the defense remained stout, with just six shots reaching goalkeeper Javiera Sanchez all game long. The sophomore keeper pitched her third shutout as a starter this season and has yet to allow a goal in nearly 300 minutes of action.

The second half saw the Dolphins continue to surge. This time, it was first year player Lily Ostiguy who got the job done for her squad. The Delaware County, Pennsylvania native scored her first collegiate goal after taking it herself and putting one past CCNY's keeper.

The win puts the Dolphins back on track as they prepare for a conference showdown on Wednesday against Old Westbury.
