Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Dolphins Defeat Yeshiva, Enter Skyline Playoff Picture

New York, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team took part in a rare double-header on Thursday night, first taking on Baruch College, then following it up with a Skyline Conference showdown against Yeshiva University. The Dolphins dropped the first contest against the Bearcats but rebounded in a major way against the Maccabees, as they went on to win in four sets while improving their conference record to .500. The team's 4-4 record is now good for fifth place in the standings, good for a spot in the postseason tournament if it were to begin today.

After a contest that saw Melanieann Broderick (seven), Reilly Nitchtern (five), Adelina Elezaj (four) and Jocelyn Castro (two) account for all of the team's kills, the Dolphins rebounded tremendously in the conference match. Broderick starred against Yeshiva, registering 16 kills, one shy of her season high. Castro also saw success in the second game of the night, finishing behind Broderick with seven kills of her own. Freshman Olivia Dutzer saw extended game action and recorded five kills along with two digs while setters Brianna Ayuso and Nicole Sullivan combined for 27 helpers.

Ayuso also paced the team in digs with 14 while Carly Synder and Naomi Reynoso aided in the Dolphins receiving efforts. First year middle Dominique Otranto also contributed five kills and a pair of blocks in a game that saw the Dolphins allow just 30 total points across the three sets they won.

Now firly in the playoff hunt, the Dolphins look to keep their winning ways intact when Maritime College comes to Riverdale on Tuesday.
