Purchase, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team continued their surge towards the Skyline Conference postseason on the road on Tuesday with a conference win over Purchase College. The Dolphins posted four goals en route to a 4-1 victory, improving their Skyline record to 4-2-2, good for the fifth seed with just a week of games remaining.
The majority of the first half saw multiple shot attempts from both the Dolphins and Panthers, but senior goalkeeper
Joel Luna and his opponent both did a strong job keeping points off the board. With just five minutes remaining, senior
Ian Lamas continued his current goal scoring streak when he converted a shot attempt off a pass from freshman
Sebastian Mesa to put CMSV up by one. The goal was Lamas' eighth of the 2023 season, good for a team-high and fifth among Skyline athletes.
The second half was just 10 minutes into action when first-year starter
Nicholas Carvalho scored just his second career goal to extend the Dolphins' lead to two. An own goal off a Panthers defender brought the score to 3-0, 0, which was eventually followed by the first career collegiate goal for freshman
Trevor Pegg, who put the cherry on top of the victory. Luna had a strong game in net all night, posting a season-high 10 saves.
Arguably the biggest test to date takes place on Thursday down at Marillac. The Dolphins welcome Farmingdale State to Riverdale, with both sides fighting for playoff positioning.
