Riverdale, NY - It has been one of the most impressive seasons in Mount Saint Vincent's program history in the sport of women's soccer, and that theme continued over the weekend. The Dolphins welcomed Maritime College to Riverdale for a conference tilt and their undefeated streak remained in tact, as CMSV downed the Privateers by the eye-popping score of 9-0. Seven different Dolphins scored in the afternoon affair, with
Stuart Dick's team dominating both ends of the field through all 90 minutes of action.
The Dolphins are now 6-0-2 against the Skyline as the season comes down to its home stretch.
Things got off to the right start with a little bit of luck for CMSV. Just three minutes into the game, an inadvertent blocked shot by the Privateers reached the back of the net, giving the Dolphins a one goal lead before the team could take a shot attempt. Just two minutes later, however, the home team started flexing their muscles. Forward
Victoria Gamarra's physical presence in front of the net was apparent in the early goings when she converted a shot attempt off an
Alicia Rodriguez pass for her sixth goal of the 2023 season.
It was more of the same offensively for a Dolphins team that out-shot their opponents 24-8. Over the course of six minutes, the first-year class made their impact, one that has been felt all season. First it was Caitlin Thompson, who scored twice within a three minute span, including one on a free kick from far outside the box. Classmate
Taylor Gabat then stepped up for her team when she took things into her own hands for an unassisted goal, the first of her collegiate career. It was then where the game was firmly in CMSV's favor, but the home team didn't take their foot off the pedal.
Next up it was
Lily Ostiguy's turn to get on the board with just three minutes remaining in the half. The freshman, who has been on a hot streak offensively over the last couple of weeks, crashed the net and scored off a beautiful corner kick from
Gabriela Del Castillo.
The Dolphins picked up right where they left off at the start of the second half. Rodriguez, Gamarra and first year striker
Eva Puentes each scored goals, while the back line, consisting of
Cameron Cruz,
Maddie Halford and
Gisselle Soria, stifled the Privateers during each and every attacking attempt. Sophomore
Javiera Sanchez got the call in net for CMSV and continued her strong 2023 campaign. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native continued her season-long scoreless streak in the victory.
Gamarra, Rodriguez, Thompson, Gabat and Del Castillo each had multi-point efforts in the contest as well.
The Dolphins, who are tied with Sarah Lawrence for the conference's best record, host Yeshiva University on Wednesday.
