Dolphins Impress At Home In Second Skyline Win Over Bears

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team returned to their home court on Thursday, looking to rebound after a tough loss to conference foes Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday night. The Dolphins did just that, as they put together one of their best collective performances of the season in front of a strong Sharp Center crowd, defeating St. Joseph's University Brooklyn in three consecutive sets by the scores of 25-22, 31-29 and 2-12.

The victory improved CMSV's Skyline record to 2-4, just one spot out of the playoff picture with five conference games remaining on the schedule.

The first set was a back and forth affair, with the Dolphins and Bears trading leads for a majority of it. With the game knotted up at 13, the Dolphins went on to score three straight points, as well as eight of the next nine, propelling them to the first win of the game. The offense was spread all over the court, with Elizabeth Flores, Melanieann Broderick, Reilly Nichtern, Jocelyn Castro and Adelina Elezaj each recording kills.

The following set featured as good of a back and forth as you'll see between two teams vying for a playoff spot. CMSV would go on three separate runs with four straight points, each time giving the Dolphins the lead. With the set tied at 29 points, Nichtern and Dominique Otranto would combine for a block, which was followed up by a Carly Snyder kill to seal the deal in CMSV's favor.

The third set proved to be all but a formality. The Dolphins would kick things off on a 14-0 run, with Elezaj starring with five kills over that span.

Broderick, the team's senior captain, led the way with 13 kills while Elezaj finished her night with 11 of her own, along with a team-best five blocks. Castro would record nine kills and a pair of blocks in the win and setter Brianna Ayuso went on to record a career-high 34 assists. Samantha Rapp made her first collegiate start at libero against the Bears and led the way with 17 digs and three assists, with Nichtern posting 9.5 total points, including a game-high five service aces.

With a win added to their record, the Dolphins will look to keep the positive and impressive play in their favor when they kick off the College's Reunion and Homecoming Weekend on Saturday against Lehman College.
