Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team returned to their home field on Wednesday evening and it gave them a major boost, as they were able to push past St. Joseph's University Long Island by the score of 1-0. The win improved the Dolphins conference record to 2-2-2, putting them a stop closer towards playoff contention.
The showdown between the Dolphins and Golden Eagles was a physical one. Both teams combined for 20 fouls, with CMSV getting called for 11 of them. That style of play helped the Dolphins stifle the opposing offense, as St. Joe's was limited to just four shots on goal.
Just minutes into the second half, defender
Justin Betancourt forced his way towards the net, pushing a shot attempt past the Golden Eagles' goalkeeper, resulting in a score that would put his team up for good. It was the junior's first of the season.
Andrew Tarkazikas, CMSV's junior goalkeeper from Greenwich, Connecticut pitched a shutout, making four saves in 90 minutes of action.
With the playoff schedule nearing, the Dolphins will look to extend their winning streak on Sarah Lawrence on Saturday.
