Newburgh, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team was looking to pick up where they left off on Saturday when they traveled upstate to take on Mount Saint Mary with a chance to improve to 3-0-1 against Skyline Conference opponents this season. CMSV was on their way to picking up another victory, but a late surge from the Knights resulted in a tie at two goals apiece. The Dolphins are now 2-0-2 against the conference, with an overall mark of 4-3-2 this season.
The first half encapsulated the Dolphins success through nine games this season. The team was on the attack offensively, contuinally making their way into MSMC's zone, as they outshot the Knights 7-2 in the first 45 minutes of action. Freshman
Eva Puentes picked up right where she left off on Wednesday; after scoring the game winning goal in the 89th minute against Manhattanville, the Garwood, New Jersey native put one on the board in the first minute of action to give her team the early one goal lead.
While the offense was aggressive, so too was the defense. The back line held the Knights in check, as they didn't allow a shot to reach junior keeper
Brooke Frierson.
The success continued throughout most of the second half. Reigning First Team All Skyline selection
Alicia Rodriguez scored her second goal of the year while adding to her stat line after assisting on the first. Despite things looking strong in CMSV's favor, the Knights had other plans, with the home team scoring two goals in the final 16 minutes of action to walk away with a tie.
It's quick turnaround for the Dolphins, who head back to non-conference action. CMSV will host the City College of New York on Monday evening as they look to regroup and prepare for Old Westbury on Wednesday.
