Dolphins Secure First Skyline Win Against Old Westbury

Farmingdale, NY - The Dolphins took a road trip to Long Island on Thursday evening with the hopes of securing their first Skyline Conference win of the 2022-23 season. The team did just that, as they went on to defeat Old Westbury by the score of 56-29, improving their overall record to 5-7 in the process. The victory was the first conference win in first-year head coach Maria Nardulli's career at the helm of the program.

CMSV got off to an incredibly hot start, one that propelled the team to victory. The team as a whole shot 50% from the floor, including an 11-0 run to start the contest. Over that span, junior forward Melanieann Broderick was a catalyst on offense, as she scored the first five points of the game. While the Dolphins didn't match their first-quarter efficiency, their large lead overshadowed some offensive struggles int he second quarter, resulting in a 20 point lead going into halftime.

The Dolphins' success on both ends of the floor continued throughout the second half. CMSV outscored the Panthers 24-17 over the final 20 minutes of play, with all 12 active players seeing action in the final two quarters. The end result was a victory that the team has been yearning for for some time.

Senior guard Kira Villegas impressed throughout the game. The Bronx native had an efficient outing, making eight of 11 shots, good for a team-best 17 points. She also secured eight rebounds, another team-high. Amber Been added 10 points, five assists and five steals in the win while freshman Julia Angeles scored nine points of her own. Eight different Dolphins scored at least one basket in the victory.

With a conference win in their pocket, the Dolphins will look to carry their momentum into next week when they take on St. Joseph's University Brooklyn at home on Wednesday.
