Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team had the tough task of hosting the 9-1 Mount Saint Mary College Knights on Thursday. The Dolphins played a fantastic first half, but the Knights were too tough to overcome, as CMSV fell by the score of 77-42.
The Dolphins are now 7-11 through 18 games thus far.
For the second game in a row at home, the Dolphins took on tough challengers, and for the second straight game they were up for the challenge. The team opened the first quarter in an impressive fashion on offense, as Amber Been and Melanieann Broderick both knocked down shots. The Knights would respond with an 8-0 run of their own before Kayla Hanley knocked down a three to make it an 8-7 game.
After ending the first up one point, CMSV would once again impress, this time opening the second quarter with five straight points, all thanks to Sofia Marcos. The freshman hit a tough layup and followed it up with a deep three pointer to extend the team's lead to six points.
Both sides would go on to trade leads before Mount Saint Mary showed why they're a top team in the Skyline. The Knights would get to the free throw line five times and convert four of them, helping their lead grow to seven points at the break.
Despite the Dolphins' best efforts, the Knights pulled away throughout the second half. Mount Saint Mary shot an impressive 57% from beyond the arc, a big reason behind their victory. The Dolphins, meanwhile, struggled from the field, making just seven total shots over the final 20 minutes of play. The Knights left Riverdale winners by 35 points.
Been was the lone Dolphin to finish in double figures, as she put together a 13 point, 10 rebound, four assist performance. Broderick grabbed five boards to go along with six points while Marcos had five points and five rebounds of her own.
The Dolphins will look to get back in the win column on Saturday when they take on Sarah Lawrence College in a conference showdown.
