Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second Half Struggles Push Mariners Over Dolphins

Riverdale, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team entered Tuesday night with the hopes of bringing their Skyline Conference record over .500. The team looked well on their way in the first half, but second half struggles resulted in the United States Merchant Marine Academy left Riverdale with a 78-50 victory.

The Dolphins are now 3-4 against the Skyline and 6-9 overall.

The Dolphins looked as good as they have to start the contest. There was infectious energy on both sides of the ball, resulting in baskets. That run included Dillon Hod and DJ Tucker both creating turnovers and finishing at the other end of the floor in back-to-back possessions to give CMSV a double-digit lead.

The Dolphins' starting unit showed impressive chemistry, and the bench picked up where they left off, as Haven Smith, Adrian Rraci and Brian Rawlings all helped pad their team's lead once checked into the game.

The Mariners did their best to cut into the deficit, but for every shot they made, the Dolphins seemed to have an answer. Despite shooting just 30% from the floor as a team, CMSV caused six turnovers and dominated the glass, resulting in a 28-22 lead at the break.

The second half, however, was a different story. Both sides went toe-to-toe over the first 10 minutes of play, with the Mariners taking their first lead of the contest with 12 minutes to go in the game. At that point, the game flipped on its head, as USMMA rattled off a 24-point run to take a large lead. The Dolphins remained competitive, but the momentum swung too far into the visitors' favorite. The game ended with USMMA on top by 28.

Tucker furthered his strong first season with the Dolphins, leading the way with 16 points with nine rebounds, an assist and a steal while shooting 40% from beyond the arc. Dan Porcic finished in double figures as well (10 points) while Dillon Hod stuffed the stat sheet with five points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal. Freshman center George Mejia posted an impressive line, with a team-best 11 boards with four assists.

Next up for CMSV is Sarah Lawrence College. They'll take the short road trip to Yonkers and battle the Gryphons this Saturday.
