Purchase, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent and Manhattanville College shared the field for the first time in 2022, serving as a rematch of the championship game a season ago. Despite a hard fought battle by the Dolphins, the Valiants' one goal was enough to give the team the win.
The Dolphins now sit at 3-3-1 on the season, with a 1-1-1 conference mark.
It was a physical contest from the first whistle to the last, with both sides battling closely over the first 45 minutes of play. The Valiants outshot the Dolphins 7-4, with both sides combining for 12 fouls. The scored stayed tied at zero going into halftime, with momentum hanging in the balance.
The Valiants capitalized on a penalty shot opportunity just 10 minutes into the second half to make it a 1-0 game. Over the course of the second half, CMSV saw a number of strong chances, with
Justin Betancourt,
Augustus McGiff,
Ian Lamas and
Dominic Algieri all nearly converting shots past the Manhattanville goaltender. The Valiants, however, were able to hold the attacks off to secure the victory.
Starting goaltender
Joel Luna made four saves to continue his strong season. The freshmen duo of McGiff and Algieri combined for seven shots.
The tests continue for CMSV, as they'll take on the impressive USMMA Mariners this coming Tuesday.
