Kings Point, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team commenced Skyline Conference play on Tuesday evening when they traveled to King's Point to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Dolphins mounted a second half comeback to give them their first conference win of the 2022 season.
The first 45 minutes of play was a quiet one for CMSV. Despite the Dolphins outshooting the Mariners 11-7, it was USMMA who got on the board first, putting a shot past freshman starter Javiera Sanchez in the 20th minute of play.
The second half, however, saw a turnaround of pressure. The Dolphins were consistently in the Mariners' zone, and it paid off 10 minutes into play. Emily McCarthy scored her team-high third goal of the year to tie things up at one after burying a shot in the top right corner. With 11 minutes remaining in regulation, it was Victoria Gamarra who scored the eventual game winner after driving down the middle of the field and scoring left. It was the first goal of the Oceanside, New York native's collegiate career.
Sanchez registered two saves in three shot attempts while McCarthy led the way with nine total shots.
The Dolphins, now 3-2 overall, will turn their attention to Sarah Lawrence College, who they play Saturday.
