Glassboro, NJ - After a come from behind win to open Skyline play, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's soccer team returned to non-conference action over the weekend, this time against Rowan University. The contest served as a rematch from the NCAA Championship Tournament from a year ago, a game that concluded the Dolphins' fantastic season. Unfortunately for CMSV, the matchup yielded the same result as last year, with the Profs emerging victorious 3-1.
The Dolphins are now 3-2 with a full slate of conference competition on the horizon.
CMSV's physical style of play worked in their favor for the majority of the first half. Despite the team picking up eight fouls, the Dolphins held Rowan in check. That was highlighted by graduate student
Giovanni Garufi, who made three saves over 41 minutes of action. The Profs, however, were able to convert a shot in the 42nd minute to give the home team a one goal lead going into the locker rooms.
From there, Rowan turned up the pressure to put the game out of reach. The Profs scored both in the first 15 minutes of the second half and the final 15 minutes in the second half to make it a 3-0 game. Despite the score, the Dolphins offense kept the offensive pressure up, with freshman
Lucas Turano scoring the first goal of his collegiate career off a strong pass from
Ian Lamas.
The Dolphins will look to make some corrections before heading back into conference play, this time against Mount Saint Mary College. They'll take on the Knights this coming Tuesday.
