Madison, NJ - After an eight day layoff, the CMSV women's soccer team returned to action on Sunday afternoon, challenging FDU-Florham in a non-conference showdown in New Jersey. The break in games didn't go in favor of the Dolphins, as they lost their first game of 2022 by the score of 1-0. The Dolphins now have two wins in three tries to start the year.
The Dolphins did their best to attack in the first half, with the team taking more shots than the Sun Devils over the first 45 minutes of play. FDU-Florham turned the pressure on in the second half, shooting 11 shots compared to just two from CMSV. Their persistent attack finally broke through, as a goal by the Sun Devils in the 85th minute of action was enough to give the Dolphins the first loss of their season.
Despite allowing the one goal, freshman goaltender
Javiera Sanchez impressed in her second career start. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native turned away five shots on goal from FDU-Florham, giving her 12 total saves on the year.
Riley Leedholm and
Emily Brownell were the lone CMSV players to register shots on goal while
Emily McCarthy paced the Dolphins with three shots of her own.
The non-conference tuneups continue for CMSV. They'll head back to New Jersey this coming Saturday to take on Kean University.
