Rye, NY - For the first time in the 2022 season, the Dolphins took the field, taking on Vassar College at the Rye Country Day School to open the year. After reaching the semifinals 10 months ago,
Stuart Dick's squad was looking to start off on the right foot, and they did just that, defeating Brewers 2-1.
Despite being outpaced by Vassar throughout the majority of the contest, CMSV came up when it mattered most. Standout sophomore
Alicia Rodriguez got things going for the Dolphins, as her converted penalty kick in the 25th minute of action gave her team the early 1-0 edge. Just minutes later, the Brewers got on the board themselves, tying the game at one to go into halftime.
After more back and forth action, it was captain and offensive juggernaut
Emily McCarthy who put the Dolphins up for good, as her goal in the 65th minute made it 2-1.
The Dolphins featured a ton of new faces in their first game victory. Freshmen
Javiera Sanchez,
Arianna Morales,
Kailey Conner,
Mazy Wright,
Dana DeDominicis and
Victoria Gamarra each received the start while
Emily Legler,
Jasmine Hewitt and
Shayla Hassler provided relief off the bench. McCarthy led the way with two shots on goal while Sanchez impressed with seven saves in her first career collegiate contest.
The Dolphins now set their sights on New Jersey City University, who they'll take on in morning action this coming Saturday. Stay tuned to CMSVAthletics.com for all the action.
