Farmingdale, NY - The three-seeded Dolphins played host to Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon, with the winner advancing to this weekend's double elimination tournament at St. Joe's Long Island. CMSV put together a fantastic overall showing against the Valiants, winning by the score of 5-3 while keeping their championship dreams alive.
The Dolphins put the momentum in their favor as soon as they got to the plate. Senior
Michael Grisanti got things going for his team after reaching on an error, which scored
Jake Blinstrub to make it a 1-0 game. After Manhattanville tied things up in the top of the third, standout freshman
Dom Porto executed a picture perfect bunt single down the left field line to score
Joey DiNorcia, with the Dolphins leading once more.
Manhattanville wouldn't go away quietly, as they eventually took the lead in the top half of the fifth off a double and sacrifice fly. But
Joey DiNorciacame up clutch for his team, as his booming two RBI double down the right field line in the bottom half of the fifth was the final nail in coffin for the visitors.
The win wouldn't have been possible without the terrific pitching performances from both
Andrew Geiger and
Sean Kennedy. The team's top two hurlers combined for all nine innings of work, allowing just two earned runs while striking out eight. The Dolphins' offense was paced by
Eric Zimmermann, who had a perfect performance at the plate. Blisntrub, Porto and
Joey DiNorcia each collected two hits.
The victory puts the Dolphins in the Skyline Conference's final four, with the weekend tournament beginning on Friday.
