Dolphins Season Ends In Skyline Conference Playoffs

Patchogue, NY - After a week layoff due to weather, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team was back on the diamon on Friday, taking part in the second leg of the Skyline Conference Postseason. The Dolphins advanced to the four-team playoff after defeating Manhattanville in the first round on May 4. Despite their best efforts, CMSV's tremendous season ended on Friday evening, after losing to both Farmingdale and St. Joe's Long Island.

The three-seeded Dolphins complete their campaign with one of the best regular seasons in recent memory.

The first contest against the Rams was the definition of a pitcher's duel. First team All-Skyline selection Andrew Geiger showcased why he's considered the ace of the CMSV staff, as he dominated the potent Farmingdale offense. The junior allowed just one run on four hits 7.2 innings of work while striking out 10. The Dolphins generated six hits on offense and scored their only run playing small ball, as senior Tyler Paulino was able to plate Michael Grisanti on a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to make it a 1-0 ballgame. After Geiger gave up the tying run in the eighth, he was relieved by sophomore Sean Kennedy, who impressed in his own right. But after Farmingdale put the winning run on base, their own version of small ball was able to get the run across, as Farmingdale walked it off on a single in the bottom of the ninth.

Due to the loss, the Dolphins put their season on the line in a game against the top-seeded Golden Eagles. St. Joe's got things started with two runs in the top half of the first, but the Dolphins responded immediately. Senior Isidoros Bartziokas singled home Jake Blinstrub in the bottom of the first inning to make it a 2-1 game. But from there, it was all Golden Eagles, as they would go on to score eight straight runs while blanking the Dolphins. Kennedy, Humberto Vela, Aidan Rice and Peter Sanderson all took turns on the mound while Matt DiNorcia led the way with three hits.

CMSV wraps up their season 26-17 while setting the foundation for years to come. The program will be a force within the Skyline Conference for the foreseeable future.
