Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dolphins Go Toe To Toe With Second Seeded Farmingdale

Riverdale, NY - For the first time in the 2022 season, the women's lacrosse team was on Marillac Field, taking on second seeded Farmingdale State in their regular season finale. The program also honored seniors Christine Laskowski, Sophia Raccolin and Veronica Sevivas for Senior Day. The Dolphins put up a tremendous effort against one of the top teams in the conference, trading leads throughout four quarters before ultimately losing by a goal.

Despite the loss, the Dolphins clinched a playoff spot, returning to the Skyline Conference tournament for the first time since the 2014 season.

The Dolphins got off on the right track in the opening minutes of the game when junior leader Colleen MacNeil buried her first shot attempt to give her team the early advantage. CMSV and Farmingdale would trade runs from there; after the Rams scored two straight to take the lead, the Dolphins, led by MacNeil, Shania Wolfe-White and Ava Starace, made it a 4-3 contest. MacNeil, Starace, Alicia Rodriguez and Ashley Teal would each put one more goal in before halftime, bringing the score to 9-7 in favor of the Dolphins.

The back and forth battle rolled on into the third, but it was in favor of the Rams, with Farmingdale outscoring CMSV 4-1 to make it a one goal game going into the fourth. The Dolphins put up a tremendous fight as timed counted down, but Farmingdale proved to be too strong, scoring in the final two minutes of the contest and winning by one.

The tremendous effort was led by Rodriguez, who paced the team with five goals to go along with one helper. She was flanked by MacNeil and Starace, who each collected four points. Wolfe-White impressed, leading the team in both ground balls and caused turnovers (three apiece) while goaltender Katherine Hungerford made 12 saves in net.

Despite the loss, the Dolphins battled through adversity and are rewarded with a postseason berth. They'll be matched up with third-seeded Maritime and will take on the Privateers in Throgs Neck this coming Tuesday.
