Throgs Neck, NY - For the first time in nearly a decade, the College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team cliched a Skyline Conference playoff berth after impressing throughout the 2022 season. The six-seeded Dolphins faced a tough opponent in Maritime, with CMSV falling to the Privateers earlier this season by 16 goals. The Dolphins faced a similar fate on Tuesday night, losing 22-8 to close out the season.
The Privateers got off to a hot start, scoring consecutive goals in the first three minutes of play. But junior
Colleen MacNeil, the team's top performer, tried to swing the momentum in her team's favor. The Mahopac, New York native took one to the house by herself and made it a 2-1 game as the clock ticked in the first. But Maritime's firepower rolled on, as they went on to score six straight goals to finish the first quarter and another at the beginning of the second before freshman
Alicia Rodriguez made her presence felt by scoring a goal of her own. Rodriguez and
Ava Starace would score minutes later to bring the game to 10-4.
MacNeil and
Ashley Teal would add to the Dolphins' score, but it was too little, too late, with the Privateers prevailing.
MacNeil would finish with four points, bringing her season totals to 36 goals and 26 assists. She now ranks tied for sixth for points in a single season with 62 while finishing second in assists in a single season. Speaking of records, Rodriguez capped off her impressive first year with the program by ranking sixth all time in goals in a single season with 42. The duo's firepower, along with Starace and Teal, will be a force to be reckoned with in 2023. Both
Kaitlyn Cronin and
Alyssa LaTorre impressed with a combined four ground balls while
Katherine Hungerford made nine saves in net. The defense grew throughout the season and will be relied upon heavily next season.
The Dolphins wrap up their season with a 4-7 overall record with a 2-4 mark against the Skyline. The season may not have finished the way CMSV wanted, but the future in Riverdale is certainly bright.
